Myanmar Donates 500 Metric Tons of Rice to Support Disaster- Affected People in Sri Lanka

A consignment of 500 Mt of rice donated by the Government of Myanmar to support communities affected by Cyclone ‘Ditwah’ was officially handed over to Sri Lanka on 09 February 2026 at the Colombo Port.

The donation was received on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka by Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development, Wasantha Samarasinghe. The Ambassador of Myanmar to Sri Lanka, Marlar Than Htaik, ceremonially handed over the donation to Minister Samarasinghe in the presence of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Disaster Management Centre and other relevant agencies.

The rice donation is intended to support Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts to strengthen national food security and provide assistance to communities affected by the recent floods.

The Government of Sri Lanka expressed its sincere gratitude to the Government and the people of Myanmar for their timely assistance which signifies Myanmar’s solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka during a period of recovery and building.
