
Ambassador of Brazil to Sri Lanka Sergio Luiz Canaes and Ambassador of Cuba to Sri Lanka Andres Marcelo Gonzalez Garrido recently paid courtesy calls on Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & Tourism.
During the courtesy call by Ambassador Andres Marcelo Gonzalez Garrido of Cuba on Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra, both recalled the long standing excellent bilateral relations and cooperation that Sri Lanka enjoys with Cuba and discussed the establishment of the statue of Cuban national hero Jose Marti in Colombo, cooperation in the fields of trade & economic, investments, education, health, culture, exchange of support in the international fora, and exchange of high level visits etc.
During the courtesy call by Ambassador Sergio Luiz Canaes of Brazil on Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra, both recalled the Sri Lanka's excellent relations and cooperation with Brazil for many decades and discussed on provision of technical assistance for Sugarcane Industry and Dairy Livestock projects by the Brazil Cooperation Agency (ABC) to Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka’s request on membership at BRICS, holding second Political Consultations, exchange of High level visits, enhancing bilateral economic and trade ties, early finalization of pending bilateral agreements/ MoUs, cooperation in the field of sports etc.
Both Brazil Ambassador Luiz Canaes and Cuba Ambassador Gonzalez Garrido assured their fullest commitment and support for consolidating Sri Lanka's long standing bilateral relations and cooperation with Brazil and Cuba, respectively, in the years to come, and Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra, also assured the new Government's fullest commitment and support towards the same as well as furthering relations and cooperation with the countries in the Latin America and the Caribbean region, for mutual benefit.
Director General of Latin America and the Caribbean Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & Tourism C. A. Chaminda I. Colonne and Deputy Head of Mission Monica Maria Meirelles Nasser of the Embassy of Brazil in Colombo and First Secretary Miriam Rosa Navarro Companion of the Embassy of Cuba in Colombo joined the discussions.
Cuba and Brazil established Diplomatic Relations with Sri Lanka in 1959, 1960 respectively. Both countries have established resident diplomatic Missions in Sri Lanka while Sri Lanka has also established Diplomatic Missions in the two countries.
