2015 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations on 24 October 1945, and the 60th anniversary of Sri Lanka becoming a member-state of the UN on 14 December 1955.
The Sri Lanka Embassy in Ethiopia was officially opened on 7 February 2017 by the Foreign Minister of Ethiopia & Sri Lanka.
On December 13, 2017, Sri Lanka acceded to The Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction, known informally as the Ottawa Treaty, the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, or often simply the Mine Ban Treaty.
Sri Lanka became the 163rd nation to accede to the treaty.
On 1 March 2018, Sri Lanka deposited the Instrument of Accession to the Cluster Munitions Convention (Oslo Convention). The Convention is a humanitarian imperative-driven legal instrument which prohibits all use, production, transfer and stockpiling of cluster munitions.
